Simulation technology

A moving platform shall be developed that can be used in professional car-ride simulations. The project focusses on applications of VR heads, which can considerably optimise the realism. A problem of this fast-growing technology: VR illness with symptoms of discomfort, headache, nausea, fatigue, apathy and instability of movement. The platform is equipped with perceptual motion-cueing-algorithms to avoid these “side effects”. Horizontal rotation seems to be a key factor. This new motion system shall be small, lightweight and compact in order to use it in standard rooms. The target of the development was to integrate an existing device – and to maintain compactness as well as the outside dimensions. Among other things, an iglidur PRT polymer rotary table bearing PRT-01-300-TO-ST from igus® was installed. The new solution is simultaneously connected with a progressive control algorithm that enhances the standard motion-cueing algorithm. Result: A compact and portable motion platform that can be used in diverse application from home to research simulation – and that clearly reduces the symptoms of the VR illness.
